Photos From Ohio's Amish Country: Spring-22

Think of what you use as a spare wheel.  Most of us have one in the trunk of our car.  But spare wheels to Amish people mean something quite a bit different.  These wheels have wooden spokes and iron rims, both typical of the Old Order Amish.  Newer and more liberal Amish sects allow the wheels to be rubber padded for comfort.  Why, the Old Orders ask, would anyone need a comfortable ride?  Such a thing would engender too many trips away from home.  For the Old Order Amish, home is the center of it all, and you can tell that by the hard iron rims on these wheels.
